Why I Coach

I imagine a world where every person embraces their boundless capacity to succeed. This vision motivates me to do what I can within my sphere of influence, to see my dream become a reality. I believe you are incredible and I want to have a hand in your greatness!

Also, I genuinely care.

We live in a connected, yet disconnected world where true connections are becoming more difficult to nurture. In an isolated world, we all need as much encouragement as we can get to persevere through the rigors of life. Supportive relationships lead to greater success and because of this, I want to be your accountability partner. So, if you’re ready to pursue the highest and truest version of yourself, I invite you to schedule a session with me today.

Her approach is genuine and holistic, which provided me with an opportunity to see my situation with a wider lens. After our session concluded, I was able to walk away with some actionable steps I can take to get to where I want to be. I’m definitely looking forward to another coaching session to uncover even more possibilities.”

An H.
“I always walked away from our conversations motivated and inspired. Our conversations were the boosts that I needed to keep moving forward and refrain from feeling stagnant. They provided energy to continue reflecting and thinking throughout the week and we always reconnected to keep the conversations going.”
Blake S.
“I spent an entire week at a leadership institute where Dr. IJ was the head of my group. I immediately could tell that she has a great heart and is really dedicated to her work with students. She did a wonderful job facilitating my group and beautifully communicated with us. I loved my one on one time with her. I digested everything she had to offer. Hearing her observations she made about me helped me embrace what I have and to learn how to be more confident in my influence over others. Her feedback meant a lot to me, it was touching, and I am so humbled that she reached out to me in this way. I’m so happy that I got to meet such a wonderful human being. She helped me greatly as she was the coach that got the most out of me and allowed me to be more vulnerable and learn that being so is such a relief and okay thing to do.”

FAQS

A few things you might like to know about coaching…

Coaching is a partnership between a coach and client where the coach engages the client in a thought-provoking and creative experience that inspires them to maximize their potential and pursue their goals with greater clarity and confidence.

Coaching is also a growth and strengths-building activity that enables you to apply your knowledge, skills, and resources to generate the best solutions to your concerns.

Coaching is a non-judgmental practice where I share my observations based on what you express in efforts to raise your awareness. Also, I pose open-ended questions to help you expand the possibilities you imagine for yourself. My overall goal is to inch you closer towards your ideal (not perfect) self.

You don’t achieve a goal solely by talking about it. Though important, speaking about what you want is the first step. You achieve a goal by doing. For coaching to work, you must be committed to carrying out the action steps you established with your coach.

I am equipped to coach you through life, career, and leadership-related concerns.

I coach anyone who is willing to be coached by me.

I completed a coach training program from the reputable, ICF-accredited CoachRICE program from the eDoerr Institute at Rice University.

Coaching can be therapeutic but it’s not therapy. The goal of psychotherapy is to directly facilitate an emotional-healing process. The goal of coaching is to increase your awareness and clarity on a matter that has you feeling stuck. Coaching usually feels therapeutic for many, but is not considered psychotherapy.

Coaching is a different frame of work than counseling or consulting. Many people view consultants and counselors as experts who hold all the knowledge and answers about their clients’ issues. In coaching, however, we believe the opposite. We believe clients are capable, resourceful, and whole and that they are the experts of their own experiences. “Fixing the problem” for the client can be disempowering to the client.

In coaching, the client leads the coach where the client wants to go. Coaching is not about advice-giving because a solution for one person may not be a fitting solution for another. Coaches engage in a non-hierarchical relationship with their clients, not with a mindset of expertise and problem-solving, but with a mindset of curiosity and partnership.

Unlike psychotherapeutic approaches, coaching does not place a heavy emphasis on exploring your past and healing. Coaching focuses on solutions for your future. In psychotherapy, a psychologist is looking for specific responses from their clients, oftentimes to make a diagnosis. Coaches, however, are not looking to find problems but follow the interests of their clients. As coach, my work is to position you to pursue what you believe is most important to you.
